Reyna is a 2D animated short film about Vina, this year's lead Queen in the Santacruzan festival, who struggles to get ready after community members comment negatively about her appearance. Joy, Vina's supportive sister, helps her to get prepared and encourages Vina to embrace herself as she is by discussing the historical context and origin of these harmful comments before leading the festivities.

 

Reyna's goal is to open up the beginning of a discussion about Western beauty standards painted in the experience of Filipino communities adjacent to many other communities that still deal with its harmful modern presence. Starting these conversations about the historical roots that feed into continued unnecessary discrimination is the first step to empowering ourselves and others to support a safer, stronger, and more unified community for everyone.
